Novel Coronavirus

Regulatory and Safety Guidance

Stericycle’s Regulatory and Safety teams have been closely monitoring the outbreak of the novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV, particularly developments made in infection control related to the proper management of clinical waste generated during treatment of patients infected with the virus.

The  2019 Novel Coronavirus is a Category B pathogen and as such the recommendation from the Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control  Division of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) is that the waste can be managed in the usual manner for healthcare risk/  infectious waste.  This has been incorporated into the infection and control guidance which is available on the HPSC Website here.

Stericycle will keep its customers and team members informed of significant regulatory developments.

Stericycle’s packaging and segregation guidelines mitigate risk associated with managing waste contaminated with 2019-nCoV. These instructions are designed to protect our customers’ staff and facilities, our team members and the community. If you are a Stericycle customer treating a patient infected with 2019-nCoV, please contact your Stericycle representatives to learn more about our procedures for this waste stream.
