For sharps not contaminated with medicinal products (Not cytotoxic or cytostatic)
Yellow-stream waste can be treated using the Alternative Treatment Process.
Examples of wastes that can be disposed of in purple lidded sharps boxes : Needles, syringes, sharp instruments, cartridges or broken glass used in the administration of cytotoxic drugs. Unused medicines left over after administration to patients.
This waste is sent for High Temperature incineration (above 1000ºc) in a suitably permitted facility.

Sharps units should be filled to maximum of three-quarters full OR to the fill-line marked on the container, whichever is reached first.
